Spring and cricket!

Well at least it's Friday and the week is out of the way, I can feel spring in the air today, walking home from work the first shoots are starting to poke through the earth, and the trees are starting to releaf again, we even had a great blue shy today it was a mighty 8C and t-shirt weather.

Last year my car broke and since it was a heap of junk at the time it was not worth repairing it, so since then I have had to walk to work everyday. It's not that far, just over 2 miles I think and it takes just a little over 30 minutes. it is the only 30 minutes I get to myself these days, but it is the most boring route you could ever walk! On the longest stretch of the walk just over a mile and a half there is just nothing, no nature, no wildlife just boring bushes and the passing cars aiming at the puddles to soak you after there has been a down pour. On one side there is a giant mound of earth that hides the airport car park and on the other is another mound of earth hiding the motorway and all I'm faced with is the dull faces of the drivers and their passengers each morning, they could wear clown faces to liven my journey into work up or something each day!

At least it's Saturday tomorrow...in fact Saturday comes in five minutes. Another glorious day for English cricket as the captain makes another test century, noticing the minnows of cricket currently playing in South Africa as well today the Aussies seemed to start rather well for a change, lets hope it's not something that continues!

  1. Wish we got cricket over here so I can see what all the fuss is about. :)

  2. Yeah, nice knock by Strauss. England are in a good spot for this test. It is just a surprise to see you guys get over two hundred when KP fails!

  3. Yeah, but now with spring coming, it isn't a bad time to take a walk to work every day. Kind of refreshing in a way-and a good stress burner.

  4. You could try this on the walk to work, pick the passing driver of your choice, wave madly with a really happy look on your face, and grade the results. We do that on boring drives, when passing other cars. You would be amazed how many people wave back, even if they don't have a clue who they are waving to.

  5. doanli - SOme people find it a nice way to go to sleep, I think it's the only game that can last four days and still end in a draw!

Lerm - The batters seem to be picking up form, it's the bowlers who are not performing at the moment, but then again it could be the dodgy wickets they are playing on out there.

The Barmy Army is set to roll forward once more in fine voice, win or lose!

YD - I'm a thinker when walking and not able to turn off, although the walk is doing benefits with an extra hole put in the belt to keep my trousers up!

DD - I might just try that one, as it's usually the same drivers that pass each day anyway.

  6. How about the "who are they really" game. Make up stories about who each driver REALLY is...a spy on the way to blow up the airport, an ax murder with a body in the truck, a police detective looking for an ax murderer, etc. Just suggestin'.

  7. Oh, being an American, I cannot make an intelligent cricket comment. Sorry.

  8. Being English, I can't make any comment on the NFL or the baseball!

  9. Hey Stu, that reminds me, I'm going to be in Manchester in May and am divided on whether to stay in the Hilton or the Crowne Plaza. What do you think? I don't want an area that's heaps busy, but I'd like to be close to some clothes shops (better ask the wife about this one) and some funky restaurants and bars. Help?

  10. lerm - oh low blow!

kimmy - now the Hilton is the new posh hotel I think that has just opened in the tallest building in Manchester, with some fantastic views of the city and the surrounding countryside and if I am right the Crowne Plaza has just opened at the end of last year. Both are on the outskirts of the city centre, just a few minutes from the city centre. The Crowne Plaza is the nearest to the eating places though, but then again there are lots of eating places whatever hotel you pick. They are both central enough to the shops and again the Crowne Plaza is just that little closer.

  11. I am sure in these days there are a few people who envy you having a job you can walk to.
